Technology is undoubtedly advancing at an incredible speed. If you were born before this new millennium, you must be aware that there was once a time when none of all these tech stuff existed. If they did, it must have been at a very laughable primitive version.
Now you even can pay someone to write my essay online, which was much harder back in the days.
Anyway, it’s quite amazing how we all now have access to all human knowledge right out of our pockets. Many people who were born in 2000 and beyond are lucky to have such an abundance of tech inventions in their lifetime.
However, as the saying goes old is golden and many of our kids today will generally find a hard time comprehending some of the primitive tech stuff we had back in the day.
So, allow me to take you back to those golden days and discuss some of the old school tech items that your child might newer understand.
Payphone
Yes, a payphone is a blast into the past and was one of the most celebrated invention of our time. I mean, it was the only fastest means of communication compared to letters and telegram. Unlike today where cellphones are more accessible that toilets globally, having a payphone back in the day was a very great deal.
To help your kid understand the payphone concept, you might want to narrate to them the dodgy tricks you might have used to contact your parent just to let them know that you’re stranded somewhere and they need to pick you up.
Boombox
Wow! Forget Spotify and all those wireless speakers invention your kid has and let me take you back to the youthful teenage years. Just as the name suggests, the boombox is still one of the best music inventions of all time.
To all those kids reading this, think of the boombox as a music box. The boombox is still one of the most celebrated inventions of all time, and most of your parents used to consider it as one of the coolest gadgets of their time.
In fact, many used to hang in popular joints where they could listen to the newest albums at full volume. Forget your Bluetooth speakers, hefting the boombox on your shoulders and walking with it around town could fetch you bonus cool points fast.
The Game Boy
Oh my! Game Boy, an invention by Nintendo was one of the must have tech gadget for the cool kid back then. Unlike playing Fortnite on your self-lighting smartphone, we used to enjoy playing Super Mario on this amazing tech device.
Apart from using rechargeable batteries and being bulky, the Nintendo Game Boy wasn’t self-illuminating. Therefore, it was hard to play your game in the dark.
Floppy disks
I know that most of you kids can identify the save icon even while asleep. What you don’t know is that that icon was inspired by a floppy disk. Before you ask me what that is, floppy disks were the only way we could save, and transfer media back then. Unlike the numerous and spacious thumb drives at your disposal today, most floppy disks had smaller capacity and it usually took forever to transfer files.
Disposable cameras
It’s simply incredible to see how kids walk around taking photos with high definition cameras fitted on their cellphones. Well, most of the adults you see around have a memory of the grandfather of all cameras, the disposable camera. Talking of it just reminded me of the clicking sound and the fuzzy dark images that it produced. I still have them with me for keepsake and really appreciate this primitive tech.
