Tom Cruise has appeared a plethora of movies, bring action and excitement to screens everywhere. The star of the world-famous Top Gun movie franchise as was as the Mission: Impossible series, Cruise has is a Hollywood actor that has cemented himself in the industry and history.
Something that not everybody may know, however, is that Tom Cruise does a lot of his own stunts – in fact, he does as many as he possibly can.
Yes, that includes hanging from aeroplanes, jumping between skyscrapers, falling out of aircrafts and even flying planes. He even insisted on doing the infamous “knife to the eye” scene in the second Mission: Impossible film. In fact, he not only did the scene himself, but he insisted on making it more hardcore than the filmmakers had originally planned.
With all this in mind, it’s really no surprise that Tom Cruise has become known as the biggest daredevil in Hollywood over the last 20 years.
Why Does Tom Cruise do All His Own Stunts?
It’s a good question, but the answer is really quite simple – Tom Cruise just wants to. From the very beginning of his career, Cruise has shown a substantial interest in the stunting side of filmmaking. In fact, so much so that many people have suggested that had he not been so successful on the big screens, Cruise would probably have tried to become a professional stuntman.
Tom’s argument is twofold, the first part of which is pretty simple – he just really enjoys it. He enjoys the thrill, the experience and the challenge of trying new things that he’s never done before. He loves doing exciting things that other people don’t get to do. And most of all, he gets satisfaction from pushing himself to the absolute extremes to see exactly what his body will allow him to do.
The other side of the coin is the professional argument. As much as Cruise respects that beauty of technology and how well and seamlessly experts can make it seem to viewers as if the actor and stuntman are the same person, he prefers that it really is the same person.
Tom is all about authenticity and trying his bast to make things as real as they seem on television, and his way of doing this is to do all the stunts that his character is supposed to have done.
What’s the Craziest Stunt Tom Cruise Has Ever Done?
Well, he’s done lots of crazy things that make playing an exciting high stakes game of online blackjack real money look tame, but arguably the riskiest was his experience in Dubai. While filming Mission: Impossible, Ghost Protocol, Cruise’s character was required to scale a building. Not just any building though – it was the tallest building in the world, the Burj Khalifa.
The stunt involved Cruise climbing to the top of the building wearing suction gloves (his character, of course) and then rappling down from the 130th floor and making a brave leap at the end.
Cruise managed to accomplish the stunt – with many anxious onlookers – and you can watch it in the movie today, but be prepared to be nervous!
